Users visit the Internet for one or a combination of these three reasons.
- Entertainment
- To Purchase or Sell Something
- To Get Information
Many of the major companies like Google, Yahoo, and eBay try and make their sites as simple as possible in both look and use because they understand this promotes ease of use, and does not overwhelm the user with too much information at any given time.
The easier your site is to use and interact with then the more users become customers, or the easier it is to establish a client base. I will build your site correct from the beginning with an intuitive structure and easy design.
Web Site Design Phases:
Phase 1 - Consultation
Website usability, logical structure and interaction is key in today's internet marketplace. Users are impatient and if your site does not deliver what they are looking for within seconds, they will hit their back button to find another site that will.
Because of this fact, I will initially need to spend some phone time with you to carefully analyze all of your needs and what you want to accomplish. This helps me understand what combinations of solutions to recommend.
Phase 2 - Market Analysis
Once I have a thorough understanding of your goals and needs, the next step is performing a S.W.O.T. analysis to fully understand how your site will need to be positioned to stand out above your competition.
S.W.O.T. Means:
- Strengths
- Weaknesses
- Opportunities
- Threats
Phase 3 - Strategic Planning
Now that I know your firm's goals and desired market position, I strategically plan the operation and logistical flow of your site to ensure you maximize user retention, content delivery, product awareness, and overall value.
Phase 4 - Design
This phase is specific to the way your site "looks" including colors, templates, layouts, graphics, headers, logos and banners. This step is a byproduct of the presented information about your needs, and should match what you intend to do. For example, as a rule of thumb, sites just delivering content should consider a very clean look.
This keeps the eye engaged on the content at hand and won't distract the user. On the other hand an entertainment site may require more engaging graphics, and eye appeal for your entertainment material. There is no rule that a simple site or a graphically complex site is better, the only rule is that regardless of the design called for it must match your market and appeal to your targeted user base.
Phase 5 - Development
The final phase is a combination of all the other phases, and is where your unique blend of needed web site features, look, layout, target market, and marketing methods come together.
